Run Out prior to Club Mt’g on Sunday 26th

Assuming there is no snow I intend to lead a run out to the Bridge House farm Cafe at Wray. The Cafe is popular with cyclists and hikers and was recommended by Paul Forrest as a venue.

I will be at the Tickled Trout at 9:30 and will set off at 9:45 . I will give out a route map before the “off”. The route will go via:- Hurst Green, Clitheroe, Slaidburn and High Bentham prior to the coffee and cake stop at the Bridge House Cafe at Wray. From there I will go to Torrisholme and join the M6 for the blast back to the Fairfield Arms.

Milage is 77 miles and the driving Time predicted as 2 hrs 13 minutes so we should be back at the Fairfield at about 1:00 assuming 45 minutes in cafe.

Chatsworth Gathering Saturday 28th April 2012

I have received the following e mail from Angus re the gathering.

Not sure if you had any plans for doing a stopover at Chatsworth during that weekend or if anyone from your region had considered going. I have put together an evening Dinner Dance at a stunning location near to Chatsworth for Saturday 28^th April and was wondering if you and your regional friends would like to join us.

We would be so delighted if you are able to join us and sharing our evening which I am sure will be great fun.

The hotel benefits from having stunning facilities which includes a lovely Spa and pool idea for a relaxing break after your journey to the peak district. The Hotel is located just over 30 miles from Chatsworth and is set in dramatic grounds on the edge of the Peak district. Sunday morning drive over some fabulous roads through the peak district to the main event.

If we get enough interest on Friday I will ensure I am at the hotel Friday night as well for those wishing to start the weekend event sooner and will sort out a curry night?
If this is off interest I can stress enough don’t delay in booking your rooms. The tickets and payment details for the evening Dinner Dance will be organised by me see event information on TVRCC for all booking information.

1. Dave Cahill has suggested we could do with some Winter photo’s for the 2013 Calendar, and as we are being forcast snow in the next few days it could be your chance for you and your car to star! Alternatively it could be what you are up to with the car in the winter months, even in bits in the garage. Just a bit of variety for the multi shot collage that has become part of the calendar.

2. South Cumbria Region have asked if we can help by taking some cars to an event on Saturday May 19th in Workington on the Cumbrian coast. The event is featured on the following website www.paintthetownred2012.co.uk and is to raise money for the West Cumbria Hospice. The event takes place in the parks and town centre and we would be in a park along with many other people including Terry Grant the stunt driver, Ford Rally cars provided by Malcolm Wilson. It really does look like a good day out for all the family.

The R.O. has a coffee shop in the town and has kindly offered to provide tea and coffee for us throughout the day. He says it will take about 1.25 hrs to get to Workington from Kendal. We would have to be there for about 9:00am so it would entail a reasonably early start. He expects it to be well supported because of the charity and the fact that car events are not common round that area.

Assistant RO anyone?

Hi Members.
My other car related interests mean I am not giving the Assitant RO position the time and effort that it needs. Therefore if anyone wants to take over the position then just declare your interest.

I will not be standing for re-election in September but will continue in the position until someone comes forward.

I still intend to be an active member of our region and continue help to organise events.

Jim at Longton Awards Dinner

Longton Motor Club held their awards dinner last Saturday at the Barton Grange Hotel. Jim Walsh won an award for being second in the Longton Club Sprint series. The winner was running a single seat race car and in third place was Andy Bradley in a Ford Focus.

The speaker was Stuart Turner who as some may remember was the head of competitions department of British Leyland in the 1970′s in the big Healey and Mini Cooper days and then went to run the Ford Rally team in the late 70′s / early 80′s. He was brilliant and very funny.

Autosport 2012

Several members including myself went to the Autosport Show in Birmingham over the Weekend.It was smaller than i remembered. A sign of the harsh economic pressures motor sport is under.

Member Bill Campion was manning the Petronias Stand on the friday. Melly, Dave H and Jim were also seen on the friday.

Car Detailing

Ian Francis sent me the E mail below with a glowing report on a man who does car detailing.

I’ve just had the 12K service done at X-Works. Following this I was asking about car polishing and Heath put me in contact with Brian at ALCHEMY 07877 823378. He’s a 1 man band at the moment operating out of the rear garage at APL – Saab Indy premises in Kirkham.

Brian spent a whole day on my car - Wash (of course) Clay bar, Machine Polish & Winter Wax (Hard wax) £120, which is very competitive for a ‘Stage 1′ treatment. He works up to 3 stages apparently.

When I arrived to pick up the car I had a bit of a shock – I actually looked at this immaculate T350 wondering where my car had gone for a moment! Looked again and realised that I was looking at it!

Upon closer inspection he explained that a recent spray job & polish had left swirl marks in the paint. Apparently they are due to the mop that had been useed. Brian’s have to pass the CD test. i.e. be able to polish a CD without leaving any marks on it.

Anyway Brian has now remedied the paint marks & removed someone’s attempt at keying the left wing & door and I’m very pleased with the result to say the least.

I usually shy away from recommendations, but this guy’s very good & not expensive either.
